Kindergarten Testimonials

from Ted and Barb O.

Ted and I want to thank you for adding the Kindergarten class to Child's Day . It was a fantastic year for Alison. She learned more than we'd ever dreamed she would learn, and with Jennifer Giroux's sensitive guidance, it seemed almost effortless. Ms. Giroux knew how to make learning a really exciting adventure for each of the ten children in the class, and she has given them all an excellent foundation for first grade and beyond. She also developed a very special relationship with each child and with each family.

We were very impressed with Ms. Giroux's level of enthusiasm, creativity, and true talent in working with the kids in all areas: literacy, math, science, art, and even taking over the musical instruction portion of the curriculum during Virginia's absence in the Fall. She has a great sense of humor, even while she consistently conveys a sense of discipline and high expectations from her students, both in terms of their behavior and their performance in class. Yet she doesn't push anyone beyond his or her ability. Her love of teaching is obvious, and we considered her an inspiration and an invaluable role model for Alison.

I was especially struck by Ms. Giroux's exceptional abilities, one day, when I stayed awhile and watched her lead the morning circle before the kids moved into their activities that day. While going over the shared reading piece for that week, she adeptly found a way to involve each of the ten children at his or her own reading level. Ms. Giroux managed to do this in a way that honored each child's individual sense of competence and style of communication without drawing any attention whatsoever to the fairly wide differences among the children. Observing Ms. Giroux that day made me realize that she is not only very competent at teaching 5- and 6-year olds, but she is so well-attuned to each of the personalities in her classroom that I can't think of a better word to describe her teaching style than "exquisite."

Ms. Giroux met the challenge of establishing a Kindergarten program at Child's Day, and she did so exceptionally well. I know she will continue to meet new challenges with every bit as much enthusiasm and competence as she demonstrated this year. We hope that many more Child's Day families will be as excited about the program as we are and will reap the rewards of Ms. Giroux's teaching and the rich learning environment that is Child's Day's trademark.

We wanted to express how much we appreciate and value Jordan's kindergarten experience at Child's Day. The program is nothing short of excellent. I am confident that attending Child's Day kindergarten contributed significantly to her acceptance into the 1st grade program at St. Andrews Episcopal School. Jordan was not only well-prepared for 1st grade, but is well-ahead of others her age. She finished kindergarten reading on almost a 2nd grade level. The small class size enabled each child to excel at his or her own pace.

Miss Giroux is such a gifted teacher. Anyone who watches her can see how much she loves her job. She is patient and loving, yet ensures that each child realizes his or her maximum potential. When she realized that Jordan loved art, she provided pictures of great works of art for Jordan's creative inspiration. Miss Giroux provides a fantastic educational foundation for the children by making her classroom a place where learning is fun. Jordan always wanted to be the first child to arrive in the morning. When we picked her up early, she was never quite ready to leave.

We are so thankful to Child's Day for providing our child with such a wonderful academic foundation. We look forward to enrolling our son in Miss Giroux's class next year.

I want to tell you again how excited Dylan is about Kindergarten. Dylan was sick for two days this week and he insisted that he needed to get back to class right away because he "loves learning so much" that he didn't want to miss out on a single minute of Kindergarten. He has said several times this month that he "just loves learning" and that he "just loves learning new things." This is amazing to us because Dylan doesn't typically talk about his feelings and because Dylan is usually somewhat shy about new situations. That he is eager to explore new things on a daily basis is a tremendous thing, and that he understands that this exploration is the essence of "Learning", is magnificent. This is very exciting for all of us and we are all thrilled and pleased.

I couldn't have asked for much more than this... that you've helped my child to develop an interest in, and a love of, learning. The truth is, of course, that you've provided much more than this... You've created the climate in which Dylan feels heard, in which he feels respected and honored for who he is, and in which he feels safe, secure, successful and proud of himself. Jennifer Giroux and Child's Day's Kindergarten program are gifts we feel honored to have received.
