HOUSEKEEPER / COOK

The person selected for this position will be responsible for custodial services necessary to maintain the facilities in a hygienic, safe, and presentable condition, all laundry related services for the Center, all aspects of the food service program and of the nutrition program for the Center. This staff member may occasionally be expected to assist in a classroom and will be expected to help with the children if an emergency occurs. All work will be performed under the supervision of the Director.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Education:  High school diploma or GED (minimum).

  • Fluent English

    The person selected for this position must have housekeeping experience and a good working knowledge of basic housekeeping tools, materials, and practices; must be an experienced cook, possess a knowledge of basic principles of good nutrition; have demonstrated ability to plan for and exercise economy in shopping, in planning, preparing and serving nutritious snacks. This person should have high standards of personal cleanliness, and should be sincerely interested in working with young children. In addition, this person should have demonstrated ability to work with others.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    - Plan, make necessary purchases for, prepare, serve, and clean-up after two snacks per day on the basis of a menu plan for each four-week period.
    - Review the nutrition and food service program with the Director periodically and coordinate the program with other activities of the Center.
    - Provide assistance to teachers for food and cooking experiences they may wish to plan for their classrooms.
    - Prepare and serve refreshments and clean up after staff meetings, and parent meetings.
    - Prepare menus and food/supply orders and review with Director.
    - Clean appliances, equipment, utensils, storerooms, and cupboards as needed.
    - Prepare and serve lunches.
    - Perform laundry tasks.
    - Maintain clean and well organized food storage, preparation, and service areas.
    - Inventory, order, receive, and appropriately store food items and supplies.
     
      - Clean and sanitize bathroom fixtures, floors, counters as needed.
    - Vacuum and/or sweep and/or wash classroom floors as needed.
    - Keep halls, entries, stairways, walks, playground, activities room, classrooms, and restrooms neat and clean.
    - Empty and clean trash cans when needed.
    - Wash and disinfect toys and other classroom furnishings as needed.
    - Clean/dust woodwork, steps, doorways, windows, etc.
    - Restock paper towels, tissues, soaps, and other supplies as needed.
    - Assist in classrooms whenever needed.
    - Ensure that all doors are locked and outdoor equipment put away, and that the building is left in a safe and secure condition at the end of each day.
    - Participate in an ongoing in-service training program to expand knowledge of child development in order to understand and meet the needs of the children.
    - Work cooperatively with all staff members.
    - Other tasks as requested by the Directors.
